Emerald water is a relatively complicated concept. It seems to be simple. What is its essence? Very worth exploring. Before we said that "planting water" is the decisive factor of the value of jadeite, the jadeite with poor water quality, the price will not be too high.
But friends who know jade knowledge also know that "species" is not the only factor that determines jade water, but there is absolutely no water without "species." Therefore, it can only be said that the transparency of "species" can affect the shape of water.
The higher the transparency, the more light that enters the jade. Light will combine with the seed and the base to create an alternating effect, and it is easier to form water.
First, what is water transfer?
Water transfer is actually a way to improve the transparency of jadeite products through the engraving process, resulting in a good head of view. It must be stated that water transfer is a physical process that does not destroy or affect the structure of the jade itself.
Water transfer is to adjust the water head. In the process of creating jade, in order to enhance its texture and layering, it has to undergo a series of design and polishing to make it more transparent and shiny. This process is to say that jade is “water transfer†in jargon. In professional terms, the physical principle of light and shadow is used to achieve the effect of highlighting the material.
If the surface of the jade is rough, the species is poor, and the transparency is weak, the “water†is weak or “waterâ€. By polishing and polishing, the surface of the jade is smooth as a mirror surface, which is good for the light to penetrate the surface and enter the interior. In other words, adjusting the light and transparency can achieve the purpose of “water transferâ€.
Water is closely related to transparency. Transparency refers to the degree of light transmission of jadeite. The national standard of jadeite classification divides the transparency of jadeite into five levels: transparent, translucent, translucent, micro-transparent and opaque.
Although transparency is not the only factor determining water, opacity will never have water. Whether transparency or not has a great impact on water, the level of transparency can affect the shape of water.
The more transparent, the deeper the depth of light entering the jade, the light interacts with the seed and the base, and it is easier to form water. Therefore, by polishing and polishing, the surface of the jade is smooth as a mirror surface, which is favorable for the light to penetrate the surface and enter the interior. In other words, adjusting the light and transparency can achieve the purpose of “water transferâ€.
The jade water transfer was originally just the experience of the engravers and the use of hollowing out these techniques to enhance the beauty of the jade. And while the water is being transferred, the color of the jade is often improved.
Therefore, water transfer is an engraving method based on the characteristics of the original stone, which is considered from an artistic point of view.
Nowadays, water transfer has penetrated into all fields of jade, which is ubiquitous. For jadeite with poor germplasm, water transfer can enhance the sense of transparency; for jadeite, which is very good for planting water, the light and shadow effect created by water transfer can create a wonderful artistic conception.
Mastering the combination of light and shadow, water transfer is no longer limited to thinning and hollowing out, and is no longer limited to the application of carvings. As shown in the figure above, the bottom of the egg noodles is curved, which can increase the fullness and lightness of the ring face.
Second, the method of water for jade
1. Use the carving technique to "transfer water"
The use of engraving techniques is the main method of water transfer. When engraving, the jade is thinned, the light transmission is enhanced, the transparency is enhanced, and the jade is more likely to be "water"; the uncarved surface is processed into a concave shade (curved surface), thereby expanding the light receiving area. For example, the back of the Guanyin head, the belly of the Buddha, and the back of the head are thinned, so that the original material with a slightly darker color gives a crystal clear aesthetic.
Faced with the darker color and thicker color blocks affecting the transparency of jadeite, the green and colorless boundary lines are outlined during the engraving process, and the green thickness of non-important parts is appropriately reduced to increase the light transmittance and achieve "water". The effect is green and fresh.
Of course, there are certain restrictions on the thinning of jade. Because the light needs a certain depth to interact with the seed and the bottom to produce the effect of "water", the too thin jade has high transparency and transparency, but often has no "water".
2. Use the inlaid back cover to "transfer water"
Inlay backing is another way to "water transfer". The back of the bottom finger is inlaid on the back of the jade, and the back of the jade is wrapped with a piece of metal.
Using the curvature of the backing material and the metallic smooth surface, the extra light is reflected and reflected on the jade, which enhances the surface gloss of the jade, thereby affecting the adjustment of the chromaticity, and has the same effect as water. It is worth noting that with the cancellation of the back cover or the opening of the event back cover, the light and shadow created by the back cover disappears, which is essentially different from the engraving “water transferâ€.
The use of the “water transfer†process has made the jade, which was not perfect enough, perfect, and visually enhanced the transparency of jade.
The quality of the “water transfer†process is the key to determining whether or not jadeite is perfect. If it can be used freely, it will make the jade raw material have an unexpected artistic appreciation value. Only by adapting to the circumstances, adapting to local conditions, and adapting to materials, can we finally achieve the perfect combination of "Tiangong" and "manual".
It is precisely because of the ingenuity of many craftsmen that the engraving or inlaying method is used to re-process the imperfect jade, thus presenting our favorite and beautiful jade.
The jade has a soul due to water, the jade water gives the emerald spirituality, and the craftsman's Seiko "transfers water" gives the jade soul.
