July 2009 US imports of textile and apparel from China slowed down

According to preliminary statistics released recently by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Department of Textiles, U.S. textile and clothing imports declined 9.4% in January-July 2009, further declining. Among them, the decline in the import of textiles and clothing from China continued to slow down to -0.04%. China's customs statistics also showed that in the first half of this year, the total exports of textile and clothing totaled 72.85 billion U.S. dollars, a decrease of 10.8%, less than the decrease of 21.8% in the overall national trade in goods. Exports slightly rebounded in June. The industry generally believes that exports in the second half more share than the first half, July is likely to become the watershed to further slow down. This is mainly related to the spending habits in Europe and the United States. The three festivals of Christmas, Thanksgiving and Halloween are all concentrated in the fourth quarter. European and American consumers often prefer to buy toys, gifts, clothes, shoes and other goods in the second half of the year. US consumer spending in the fourth quarter usually accounts for 70% of the full year.
